Happy Valentine's Day!!!
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14. Please make sure you send in the decorated cereal box and your child's valentines before or on Tuesday so we have everything set for the party. We get to celebrate the 100th Day of School on Wednesday, February 15. We have so many activities planned for this day. Just a reminder --Please send in a valentine for every child and no candy or food product is allowed to be attached to the valentine. Thanks so much for all your support!
Wipes and Highlighters
Thank you to everyone who has been sending in the extra supplies that our class is in need of at this point in the year. We greatly appreciate it. When you send in wipes, please make sure they are the wipes the students can use on their hands for snack. We have plenty of disinfecting wipes for the desks, faucets, etc.

Read, Read, Read!!!!
Reading is so important in First Grade. Please read at home with your child. Setting aside a few minutes a night is all you need to do to encourage reading at home. Please remember to send in your reading incentive list of the books that they have read. Please also send in a peacock feather that will be added on to each child's peacock on our class bulletin board.
Homework will be given Monday through Thursday nights. We will have 2 assignments a night. A math assignment and a Language Arts assignment will be given. The language arts assignment may be a spelling, grammar, phonics, or poetry assignment. We will also have a fluency folder that goes home on Thursday nights for the weekend. Just a reminder that a speller's choice assignment should be done every Monday and Thursday in addition to our other homework. And as always, please read every night!! Keep those reading charts coming!! Please go on Raz Kids as much as possible also. I assess the children often so they are on the reading levels that they should be comfortable decoding.
First Grade Happenings!!
February is here! We are more than halfway through first grade and our 100th day of school is fast approaching. We will be starting Unit 4 in Reading and the selections are becoming longer. We have learned about magic e rule and will be moving on to the double vowel spellings in words(ai, oa, ee, etc.). We are completing the writing process step by step and becoming independent authors. Soon we will choose a selection that we want to publish and will type it in the computer lab and print and illustrate it. Watching my students become authors is so exciting for me. In Math we are adding and subtracting like champs and are learning all different strategies for doing these operations. We have moved on to double digits and identifying tens and ones. We are finishing up our unit on balance and will soon be starting our space unit. The children loved learning about Groundhogs and a class book will be coming home soon to circulate. We will be learning about the President Washington and President Lincoln in the next week and also will be touching on Dental Health. We are all looking forward to the second half of the year in first grade.
